He performed as a Tenor I with other students from across the state under the direction of Melanie DeMore. The choir performed DeMore’s songs “Somebody’s Baby,” “Now Let Us Sing (Sing Til the Power),” “Freedom Land (I’m On My Way),” “Bright Blue Sky,” and “Lead with Love” to a standing ovation.
To make all-state choir, Martin submitted three vocal recordings to audition. Judges listened to the students, evaluating them on their overall musicianship and technique. After being selected, Martin attended camp Aug. 2-6 at St. John’s University to meet DeMore and the choir followed by long hours of rehearsals. The camp culminated in a performance at St. John’s Abbey on Aug. 6. “It was a unique experience that helped me grow as a musician,” Henke said. “Every choir kid who is passionate about music should audition for All-State.” See more pictures here.
