Dear Students and Families, Welcome to Aitkin Public Schools, ISD #1! I hope the 2025–2026 school year is off to a wonderful start for everyone. To our returning families, welcome back. To those who are new to our district and community, we are honored to have you join us.
The mission of Aitkin Public Schools is “to inspire and prepare our students with the tools and skills to succeed in an ever-changing world.” This is the focus of our work each and every day.
Our students consistently perform well above the state average on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments. In 2024–2025, preliminary results show our students scoring 5.2% higher than the state average in reading and 14.6% higher in math. Science results have not yet been released. These successes reflect the remarkable efforts of both our students and staff inside and outside the classroom.
The Aitkin Children’s Center offers half-day preschool for our Junior Jakes (age 3) and full-day preschool for our Jakes (age 4). Led by licensed teachers, the program prepares young learners for future success. Families also have access to Kids Club childcare, providing flexible care even on non-preschool days.
At Rippleside Elementary, students benefit from regular “What I Need” (WIN) time, which allows targeted support in reading, math, or enrichment based on district assessments. Our teachers collaborate to ensure students receive the help they need most. Beyond academics, students learn in unique settings such as our school forest and school garden program. Fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden go directly to our cafeterias, strengthening our farm-to-school connection.
At the secondary level, students have opportunities to earn over 40 college credits without leaving the high school. We also offer strong Agriculture and Industrial Technology programs that prepare students with hands-on skills for a variety of careers. Each student has access to technology—MacBooks in grades 9–12 and iPads in grades K–8—ensuring learning is supported by up-to-date tools and resources.
Opportunities extend well beyond the classroom. Aitkin students can choose from more than 18 clubs and activities and over 15 athletic teams. The Aitkin Gobblers are proud to carry on a tradition of teamwork, community, and school spirit.
We continue to expand our support systems to meet the needs of every student. By focusing on key learning standards and tailoring lessons, our staff helps ensure student success. With strong support from parents and the community, we are proud of our results and remain committed to raising expectations even higher.
We are excited about the 2025–2026 school year and the opportunities it will bring. Thank you for partnering with us to provide a top-quality educational experience for all students. It’s a great day to be a GOBBLER! Daniel J. Stifter Superintendent, Aitkin Public Schools We Are ISD #1
