College in the Schools (CIS)

College in the Schools (CIS) is a concurrent enrollment program that gives high schools an opportunity to strengthen their academic course offerings while allowing students to earn college credit.  Concurrent enrollment courses are taught by college-credentialed high school instructors in collaboration with college faculty members.  Students gain exposure to the academic challenges of college and strengthen their study skills while learning in their high school environment. Earning college credit while in high school can allow a student to receive a rigorous education, orientation towards the college experience, and save them money in future tuition cost savings. 
CIS courses at AHS are open to 11th and 12th grade students who meet the required eligibility outlined by the college institution that is awarding the college credit.

-Convenience - College in the Schools truly caters to the high school student. Registration and required course materials are taken care of by the high school. Students earn college credit without ever leaving AHS!
-Credit earned within the High School semester - CIS courses follow the high school calendar and schedule. 
-High School Instructor - CIS students learn from fully credentialed Aitkin High School teachers. This keeps students within the familiarity of the high school setting. AHS instructors are more in tune with the needs of high school students and offer the guidance and understanding that an online college professor cannot.
