Speech Members Headed to State
Seniors Bryanna Baugh and Jake Fontaine took part in the Section 7A Speech Competition on Saturday, April 14th. Bryanna earned 2nd place in Creative Expression, and Jake came in 1st in Informative Speaking, so both will advance to state competition. This will take place in Apple Valley on Saturday, April 21st, and will mark the end of both these speakers' HS speech careers, as well as the conclusion of the speech program at AHS. We wish Jake and Bryanna the best as they move on!
Middle School Math Competitors Successful at SCSU
23 7th and 8th graders attended the SCSU annual math competition on April 5th. 7th Grader, Johnathan Woodworth placed 17th out of 486 7th graders, placing him in the top 5%. 8th Graders Emma Thompson (17th place) and Grace Janzen (31st place) scored in the top 5% in the 8th grade category while Ben Harris (72nd place) scored in the top 10%. There were 786 8th graders who competed.

Announcement Regarding Makeup Day
Dear Parents and Students-
The decision to close school on Monday, March 5, was difficult and has an effect on the school calendar. Upon my arrival to Aitkin, I have been promoting instructional time as vital to success in student learning. At the board level, in cooperation with our staff, we agreed to make up missed instructional time within the school calendar year. We decided that days missed prior to the February holiday day weekend would be made up on February 16th and 19th. We had decided that any day missed after that holiday weekend would first be made up on April 27th. School will be in session for students on April 27, 2018. Going forward, the snow day make-up dates will be published with the approval of future calendars so families can make appropriate plans should we have school closures.
